About
Was one of the world's top five global advertising and marketing services networks before being absorbed into the unified dentsu organization in 2023.
Dentsu International was the international operating arm of Japanese holding company Dentsu Group Inc., formed in 2019 when Dentsu Aegis Network was rebranded to Dentsu International. It served as the umbrella organization for Dentsu's extensive portfolio of creative, media, and customer experience management agencies outside of Japan, including well-known brands such as Carat, iProspect, Merkle, dentsu X, and McGarryBowen. At its peak, Dentsu International operated across more than 145 countries, employing tens of thousands of professionals and ranking among the world's largest advertising and marketing services groups alongside WPP, Publicis Groupe, Omnicom, and IPG. The organization was built substantially through aggressive acquisition, most notably the 2013 purchase of Aegis Group by Dentsu, which formed the original Dentsu Aegis Network. Subsequent acquisitions—most prominently the 2016 purchase of data-driven marketing agency Merkle—expanded Dentsu International's capabilities into CRM, performance marketing, and data analytics, positioning it as a leader in the convergence of creativity and technology-driven marketing solutions. On January 1, 2023, Dentsu International ceased to exist as a distinct brand, having been folded into the unified 'dentsu' organization restructured into four geographic regions: Americas, EMEA, APAC, and Japan. This consolidation was part of Dentsu Group's broader transformation strategy to simplify its operating model, reduce complexity, and present a single integrated brand to clients globally. The Dentsu International name was retired, with its constituent agencies and capabilities continuing under the unified dentsu umbrella.
