About

Was a top-five global advertising and media services holding company, positioned as a major challenger to WPP, Publicis, Omnicom, and IPG with particular strength in digital and performance marketing.

Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN) was formed in 2013 following Dentsu Inc.'s landmark $4.9 billion acquisition of Aegis Group in 2012, one of the largest deals in advertising history. The network brought together a powerful portfolio of specialist agencies under a single umbrella, including media planning and buying powerhouse Carat, performance marketing leader iProspect, digital agency Isobar, creative agency McGarrybowen, and social/digital shop 360i, among others. At its peak, DAN operated in over 145 countries with more than 45,000 employees, positioning itself as a formidable challenger to the traditional 'Big Four' holding companies — WPP, Publicis, Omnicom, and IPG. During its seven-year existence, Dentsu Aegis Network pursued an aggressive acquisition strategy, absorbing hundreds of independent agencies across digital, data, and performance marketing disciplines. This approach allowed DAN to rapidly build capabilities in programmatic advertising, data analytics, content marketing, and e-commerce, reflecting the broader industry shift toward digital-first media investment. The network generated revenues exceeding $10 billion annually at its height and served many of the world's largest advertisers across consumer goods, automotive, technology, and financial services sectors. In 2020, Dentsu Group announced a sweeping global restructuring that eliminated the Dentsu Aegis Network brand entirely. The international operations were consolidated under the new 'Dentsu International' banner, while Japanese domestic operations were unified as 'Dentsu Japan Network.' This restructuring was designed to streamline the group's complex multi-brand architecture, reduce operational redundancy, and present a more unified proposition to global clients. The legacy of DAN lives on through its constituent agencies, many of which continue to operate under the Dentsu International structure today.
