About

Was one of the world's largest independent media services groups prior to its 2013 acquisition by Dentsu, competing with the top global advertising holding companies.

Aegis Group plc was a prominent UK-headquartered global media services and market research conglomerate that built one of the advertising industry's most recognized portfolios of agencies and research brands. At its peak, Aegis operated Carat, one of the world's largest media buying and planning networks, alongside Vizeum and other specialist media agencies under its Aegis Media division. Its market research arm, Synovate, provided consumer insight and data services to clients across dozens of countries, making Aegis a formidable dual-force in both media execution and audience intelligence. Aegis Group grew through a combination of organic expansion and strategic acquisitions, establishing a significant global footprint across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and beyond. The company was publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange and competed directly with the holding company giants of the era, including WPP, Publicis Groupe, Interpublic, and Omnicom. Its independence and scale made it an attractive acquisition target as consolidation accelerated across the global advertising industry. In 2012, Japanese advertising giant Dentsu Inc. announced its acquisition of Aegis Group in a deal valued at approximately £3.16 billion (around $4.9 billion), which completed in 2013. The acquisition was transformative for Dentsu, dramatically expanding its international presence and capabilities. Following the deal, Aegis Group's operations were integrated into what became Dentsu Aegis Network — later rebranded as Dentsu International — effectively absorbing the Aegis brand into the broader Dentsu Group Inc. structure. Synovate had already been sold to Ipsos in 2011 prior to the Dentsu acquisition.
