About

Was one of the largest and most prominent agency trading desks in the holding company ecosystem, operating as IPG Mediabrands' centralized programmatic and addressable buying unit before rebranding as Matterkind.

Cadreon was the addressable advertising and programmatic trading unit of IPG Mediabrands, launched in 2010 to centralize data-driven, audience-based media buying across digital channels for IPG's agency clients. Operating as a center of excellence within the IPG Mediabrands network, Cadreon provided programmatic media buying, audience targeting, data management, and analytics capabilities, serving as the technology and trading arm that powered addressable advertising for agencies including Initiative, UM, and other IPG properties. At its peak, Cadreon was recognized as one of the leading agency trading desks in the industry, competing with similar units at WPP, Publicis, and Dentsu. On May 7, 2020, IPG Mediabrands retired the Cadreon brand and relaunched the operation under the name Matterkind. The rebrand was designed to signal a strategic evolution beyond traditional programmatic trading toward a more holistic addressable activation model — encompassing connected TV, digital out-of-home, audio, and other emerging addressable channels in addition to display and video. The Cadreon brand was fully retired as part of this transition, with all personnel, capabilities, and client relationships absorbed into Matterkind. Cadreon's legacy lies in its role as an early pioneer of the agency trading desk model, helping to institutionalize programmatic buying within large holding company agency structures. Its evolution into Matterkind reflects the broader industry shift from programmatic as a tactical execution layer to addressable media as a strategic, cross-channel discipline. The Cadreon brand no longer exists as an operating entity.
