A well-regarded cloud-native data pipeline platform competing in the modern ETL space before being acquired by Google Cloud in 2019.
Alooma was a cloud-based data integration and pipeline platform founded in Israel that allowed data engineers and analysts to collect, transform, and route data from multiple sources into cloud data warehouses such as Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, and Snowflake. The platform was notable for its real-time data streaming capabilities, a visual code engine for data transformation, and robust error handling that allowed teams to fix and reprocess data without losing records. Alooma positioned itself as a modern alternative to legacy ETL tools, offering flexibility and developer-friendly tooling alongside a user-friendly interface.
Alooma gained significant traction among data-driven enterprises and mid-market companies looking to consolidate disparate data sources into a single warehouse for analytics and business intelligence. Its ability to handle both batch and streaming data, combined with support for hundreds of pre-built integrations, made it a competitive player in the rapidly growing data pipeline and ETL market alongside companies like Fivetran, Stitch, and Talend.
In February 2019, Google acquired Alooma to accelerate the development of its data integration capabilities within Google Cloud Platform, particularly around BigQuery. Following the acquisition, Alooma's technology and team were absorbed into Google Cloud, and the Alooma product was eventually sunset. Google leveraged Alooma's expertise to enhance its own data integration offerings, including what would become part of the Google Cloud Data Fusion and BigQuery ecosystem. The Alooma brand and standalone product ceased to exist as a distinct offering.
