With a move into podcast hosting, beehiiv adds another popular format for its creators
Yet another digital media company is riding the podcast wave. This time, beehiiv is the platform making moves: The newsletter hub and website builder has announced that it will let its users host, distribute, and monetize podcasts. Late last month, Semafor reported that beehiiv was reaching out to independent podcasters who were partnered with rival platforms like Substack. After closing one of the biggest funding rounds in tech history, OpenAI wasted no time breaking into podcasting. The company known for products like ChatGPT has acquired TBPN, a podcast that treats the Silicon Valley ecosystem like a sports league. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The TBPN team announced on Substack that they will continue operating independently and will retain full editorial control over their show. An "Editorial Independence Covenant" will limit OpenAI's ability to influence coverage, though the tech giant will help TBPN -- which stands for Technology Business Programming Network -- scale up and expand its reach.
