One of the largest U.S. digital rental marketplaces, operating multiple high-traffic apartment listing platforms before acquisition by Redfin in 2021

RentPath was a prominent digital marketplace and marketing solutions company focused exclusively on the rental housing sector. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the company operated a portfolio of well-known apartment search platforms including Apartment Guide, Rent.com, RentPath Network, and Lovely. These platforms collectively attracted millions of renters monthly, connecting them with property managers and landlords across the United States. RentPath provided multifamily property owners and managers with a suite of digital advertising, lead generation, and software tools designed to fill vacancies and manage their online presence. At its peak, RentPath was one of the largest digital rental marketplaces in the United States, competing directly with CoStar Group's Apartments.com and Zillow's rental division. The company generated revenue primarily through subscription-based listing packages sold to property managers and apartment communities. Despite its strong market presence, RentPath filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February 2021, citing financial pressures exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and a competitive marketplace landscape. Following the bankruptcy filing, Redfin — the technology-powered real estate brokerage — acquired RentPath in April 2021 for approximately $608 million. Redfin's intent was to integrate RentPath's rental platforms and audience into its broader real estate ecosystem, expanding its reach beyond home buying and selling into the rental market. After the acquisition, RentPath's brands and operations were absorbed into Redfin's platform, effectively ending RentPath's existence as an independent entity and marking the conclusion of its two-decade run as a standalone rental advertising powerhouse.
