One of the top two mobile ad networks in the US prior to acquisition, competing directly with AdMob
Quattro Wireless was a mobile advertising network founded in 2006 and headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. The company built one of the early premium mobile ad networks, connecting advertisers with mobile publishers across a wide range of mobile devices and platforms. Quattro offered rich media mobile advertising solutions at a time when mobile advertising was still nascent, positioning itself as a leader in delivering targeted, high-quality mobile ad experiences.
The company competed directly with AdMob, the dominant mobile ad network of the era, and differentiated itself by focusing on premium publisher relationships and richer ad formats. Quattro's technology enabled advertisers to reach consumers on smartphones and feature phones, providing targeting capabilities and performance analytics that were advanced for the mobile advertising landscape of the late 2000s.
In January 2010, Apple acquired Quattro Wireless for approximately $275 million, using the company's technology and team as the foundation for its iAd mobile advertising platform, which launched later that year. The acquisition was widely seen as a direct competitive response to Google's acquisition of AdMob in late 2009. Following the acquisition, Quattro Wireless ceased to operate as an independent entity, with its assets and personnel absorbed into Apple.
