Starbucks Sued For Allegedly Claiming That Drinks Are Sugar-Free

Starbucks has been hit with a class action lawsuit by consumers who say that drinks advertised as “sugar-free” contain sugar,  TIKR reports. The chain introduced Sugar-Free Vanilla and Caramel Protein Lattes and Sugar-Free Vanilla and Caramel Protein Matcha drinks in September 2025. The complaint charges that the drinks contain lactose, a sugar found in milk, and points to federal law that bars the term “sugar-free” for 12-ounce drinks with more than 0.5 grams of sugar. The Starbucks drinks—those in the 20- or 24-ounce size range—contain 13 to 21 grams of sugar, the complaint alleges.
