Microsoft Ad Firm Hit With 'Record' Fine In Norway

Norway’s Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, has hit a Microsoft-owned advertising company, Xandr, with a $9.6 million fine for sharing sensitive data on Grindr users. The fine -- the largest ever imposed by the authority -- was issued because “the breaches we identified were very serious,” said Line Coll, director general of Datatilsynet. According to Datatilsynet, Xandr conducted advertising auctions inside Grindr that could have exposed data on users, including information on sexual orientation, to thousands of companies.
