Layer7 Technologies was a leading provider of API management, security, and gateway solutions that enabled enterprises to securely expose, manage, and monetize their APIs and web services. Founded in 2002, the company developed comprehensive API management platforms that helped organizations transition to service-oriented architectures (SOA) and later API-driven digital transformation strategies. Layer7 was acquired by CA Technologies in October 2013 for approximately $540 million, recognizing the strategic importance of API management in enterprise IT. Following the acquisition, Layer7's technology became a core component of CA's API management portfolio, branded as CA API Gateway and CA API Management. The platform continued to serve enterprise customers requiring robust API security, governance, and lifecycle management capabilities. In 2018, CA Technologies itself was acquired by Broadcom, and Layer7's technology was integrated into Broadcom's enterprise software division. Today, the Layer7 technology lives on within Broadcom's product suite, though the Layer7 brand has been largely absorbed into Broadcom's broader API management and security offerings. The original innovations in API gateway technology, OAuth security, and API lifecycle management that Layer7 pioneered continue to influence enterprise API management practices, even as the distinct Layer7 identity has been subsumed into its parent company's portfolio.
