National monopoly on intercity passenger rail service in the United States
Amtrak is not an advertising technology company. It is the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, a federally chartered corporation that operates intercity passenger rail service in the United States. Amtrak was created by Congress in 1971 to take over the intercity passenger rail obligations of private railroad companies. The company operates more than 300 trains daily on 21,400 miles of track, connecting over 500 destinations in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and three Canadian provinces. While Amtrak may purchase advertising services and media to promote its rail services, it does not operate within the AdTech ecosystem as a provider of advertising technology, platforms, or services. Any inclusion in an AdTech industry analysis would be a misclassification.
